Can I dye my hair a different color?

I'm a guy and I have really curly, thick, frizzy hair. I go through a lot of anti-frizz cream that I put in my hair after I get out of the shower at night and it does help for the next day, but it's still frizzy. So firstly, how can I control my frizz more? Also, my hair is light/medium brown and I would like it to be black. People tell me it looks good brown, but I would like to try dying it, at least once black. any advice. If I do dye it, I will probably go to a salon or professional, I won't do it myself.
