Is it safe to use tampons while using Monistat for yeast infections?

I have been using the Monistat 7 day treatment, and have 2 more suppositories to use until completed. I started my period yesterday and had no choice but to use a tampon because I wasn't home, I have been reading online and some say its okay to use a tampon and others say "NOOOOOO", so I am a little confused. I want the infection to go away, and I really don't like to use anything other than tampons but I don't want to prolong the infection either!
