Suppository Vs. Enema for CAT?
I have used 1/2 of a baby suppository on my cat with the vet's knowledge. The vet also gave my cat an enema and so did I. This will only empty the colon and not the intestinal tract if there is an obstruction of hairballs that cannot be digested. If your cat cannot have a bowel movement, it is time for an x-ray and a complete blood work up and urinalysis by the vet. Cats can become constipated with foreign objects causing obstructions or partial obstructions. Only a vet can give a high enema without causing severe internal damage. Constipation can also be caused by kidney disease. Only use an enema with the advise of a vet and the correct pressure and amount. You cannot use human enemas on cats as the ingredients can be deadly. Too much pressure applied can cause the intestine to burst. This is why it is best to have a vet do these procedures unless you have been given the proper instructions.
